watching tins go by

what happens to emotions once materials are gone

dancing in the market place

like all so many boys and girls

waiting to be taken home

 what happens to love when the market falls,

will we share …

or will greed

 prevail …

Metamorphosis

where have all the butterflies gone ?left wings behindwhite

…. and day after the party, there were empty wings everywhere,

metamorphosis

cracks at dawn

and catalyzes

nothing will ever be the same again,

wings left behind as the butterflies changed into something even more

spectacular, with a catacalysm of currents on the way forward.

BUTTERFLIES
To keep beauty flourishing in the air
is the work of butterflies
We all want to speak in this new key of warmth,
every word spoken a tower of reprise,
as we reflect to enjoy this cognitive digestive.
Words spoken once are still shinning
in a cloudy aftermath but
will stop and be still,
for to keep beauty flourishing in the air
is the work of butterflies.

What started last year as a reaction to a crisis / world wide and personal, a story of songs fortelling crisis - notions up in the air - rexamination of there / here - flying through the air and clouds seeking angels, and coming forth back to life with a new constellation of values  - saying beauty is all that matters. And sharing - can u share …

The character that emerged to foretell the story had been a cabaret character, resonating back to the thirties when the world was undergoing another similar dissolution of material value …

This cabaret character, neither a caricature nor a replica, simply a reinterpretaion of 30’s cabaret spirit walked through the streets and flew through the air in magic cabaret shoes,

examining the new emerging constellations …

And discovered a new platform for presentation of the story - not a stage, but many stages, not one audience, but many audiences, interacting together through sharing food.

This platform for sharing a performance was to be the internet … and cabaret, gained a new name. Conceptualizing a platform to stream video and music live … thinking more basic and internet wise … another spirit became predominant

This spirit, of pscyhcic connectivity through the internet, mirrored the changes in technology and society.

Once, a supposed dichotomy between spirit / technology is lifted, dissolved, as all dichotomies should be, and the internet is becoming more and more a place of spiritual sharing .

The two characters that emerge - the cabaret character and the muse me internet character, a goddess of the night versus a high priestess of contemporary spirituality.

Reality as we were accustomed to - Material -  past dreams of modernity and mechanics ( and an escapism from that ) - are in the cabaret character - the night - the moon

Spirituality - Emotions - Now - Psychic Connectedness - Contemporary rituals, the seeking and spreading of ancient rituals ( and a combination, dissolving of the dichotomy of spiritual / technologoical ) - are in the electronic high priestess - light - the sun

The two characters, the moon and the sun, the old and the new, the moon that covers as a blanket all that has been lived, all the seeds that have been sown, and feeds dreams, that sprout for the sun, who chases them high and wide forth into the universe, nurturing and blessing and endowing with possibility …

Now … these two characters, that have emerged from the story to be told, and the way the story will be told, chase each other hand in hand through the performance ..

as the sun follows the moon follows the sun

in a perpetual motion

of tides

of learning

and growth’

and celebration

Muse Me Modules 1- 3 for dance workshops in schools.

Muse Me, is a performance about creating in unision around the world.

In parallel to it’s development as a performance, Muse Me offers a series

of workshops for school children.

Workshops

These workshops aim at cross cultural community building between schools

in Turkey and the US, in order to prepare children of the world for global

ciltizenship and promote understanding between cultures through

transcultural creativity in the arts curricula.

How

Students from schools in New York and Turkey are to be bridges through

sharing through the internet, participating in parallel workshop

process’s, and the sharing of their  results and experiences through the

internet utilizing content sharing and community building websites.

Workshops

Introducing cultural attributes of different countries to each other for a

united world. The dance &  music of different cultures are introduced to

students and serve as legacy carriers to promote understanding and inspire

to connect.

Process
- Dance / Music

A series of dance improvisations, through different genres of music :
Classical, jazz, cabaret, electro, punk, rock & eclectic  music

 The concept is one of sufi twirling through different genres of music,

recognizing the same central motif :

” the dancer turns round with the earth turning in the universe, all of

us, all on earth, and the univese turning together with love …. “

Thus, a pirouette and a sufi turn, both become visible as love /

togetherness in the universe.  And participating students get to work with

seeing concepts of naratives and relocating them / discovering them in

their abstracts, in other music forms - recognizing the universality of

the dance and it’s meaning of unification.

Workshop Module 1

( A short and impactful workshop )
Duration : 3 sessions.
An impact approach of meet, learn, practice, perform, show and reflect.

The workshop introduces the students to the main tenets of the sufi sema

dance. The idea of universality, and all of us, on earth, turning with

love, together with the earth, in the universe.

The students are then allowed to practice the sufi dance themselves, and

abstract the movement, concept, to themselves apply to different genres of

music, and recognize that the meaning continues in different parameters

aswell.

The aim, of the workshop, by experimentation with the students

coreographing their own movements, to arrive at the universality of the

twirl , and it’s meaning of love / universality / one-ness.

How the workshop will be conducted

Two participating schools, one in Turkey and one in NY
Each school has a workshop coordinator : An art / dance teacher.

The workshop coordinator introduces the students to different kinds of

music, and explains the main tenet’s of the sufi dance and asks the

students to experiment with this dance to different kinds of music.

Thereby abstracting and simplifying the message, of us turning with the

world in the universe with love.
&  students are invited to see / follow future of performances of Muse Me

through internet

1st session ; meet, learn, practice

2nd session : perform

3rd session : watch own performances and reflect, and invite students to

follow future muse me performances on web and real life in parks and

internet in spring 2010.

an extended workshop of cultural exchange between schools here and there.

Each school to provide a co-ordinator, within art curricula - either dance / music or arts.

10 weeks, allows a more intense delving into the cultural history of the creative elements.

 Firstly the students are presented with the cultural narratives behind sufism, and the different genres of music they will listen to, from a universl persepective.

They will then be given some historical backgrounds of dance / music / sufism in the different cultures - countries they are in contact with ( Turkey / US )

Then proceed to elementary dance stretching exercises for beginners

Then proceed to sufi dance tenets

Then an examination of the internet as a means of communication for a global and united community around the world.

Examine how technology and communication can enhance collaboration and creativity between cultures
