SMS Love is an interactive digital performance, which plays out in the public spaces of the real world and the internet, spreading messages of love. SMS LOVE ask’s you to send messges of love to a world without boundaries, erasing and censoring all mention of nationalites or nations …
The project was conceptualized by Gul Kozacioglu, whilst based between Copenhagen, Berlin, New York and Istanbul, who found herself at the center of a synergic questioning of time and space, brought about by a constant influx of textcommunication between her various city bases. To her, SMS messages represented a new poetic genre, reminiscent of Beat, Haiku and Sufi poetry in their creative, instant expressions of love and daily life.
In the performance, a telephone number is spread through various mediums, inviting people to send messages of love to the world. The contents of the received messages are filtered by a ‘Love Dictator’ digital choreography program, matching them up with a related dance in which a ‘Love Dictator’ dances for free expression and against the hidden presence of censorship in the public space; she erases all references to nationalities in her dream of a perfect world without boundaries.
The project has been exhibited in Copenhagen and Istanbul in 2008 - 2009, and will continue to tour in a new version.
